Cards like a Local

We are not just tourists - we have cards like locals. Here are all the ones I have in my collection.

Stockholm City Bikes card - local version of the Paris Velib or London Boris.

Bonnierskonsthall - Contemporary art gallery - this card came free with the Moderna Museet card.

SL Card - like an oyster, but £69 for a 30 day season ticket

Friends of the Moderna Museet card. Free entry to the Modern Art Museum, National Museum (like the National Gallery and V&A combined), Architecture Museum and a couple of contemporary art galleries. Also money off in their shop and their very nice restaurant.

Library card - the city libary is one of the classics of Swedish architecture and also has lots of good books in English. This is probably the best of all our cards.

Kayaking

We've now had 3 weekends in a row on the water - two weekends in the archipelago and then kayaking in central Stockholm on Saturday. Lots of fun - will definitely go again - and also out in the archipelago.

It was another beautiful day in the low twenties - shorts and t-shirt weather again. Kayak hire place was about 20 minutes walk from our flat - paddled up to the Stadshuset and past all the tourists on the terrace. After a detour under a low bridge, we crossed Riddarfjärden and paddled betwen Langholmen (prison island) and Södermalm (home).

Here's a lovely photo of us by Stadshuset, looking right into the sun so you can't actually see us.

Cool Things in Stockholm

I have an ongoing album on facebook of 'Cool Things in Stockholm' however some of you are smart enough to not be on there. So here are some highlights.
First up is food - starting at top left then going clockwise
Friday afternoon fika - we get cake with tea break on Friday - this was a superb cheesecake with a rich mango sauce on top.
Big round cripsbread.
Hungry? Hot dog not enough? Why not have a hot dog with mashed potato in a wrap? yum yum plenty of carbohydrate. (Technical point - I have not eaten one of these, just taken a photo).
Caviar in our local supermarket for £1 a jar - it's like finding Caviar in a Kwik Save.
Then we have things which are mostly in the office (except for the second). Our office light box being used - hurrah for old school technology. Photo of evening's sport on Eurosport - armwrestling followed by table football followed by Extreme Dogs Challenge.
A fikaplats (coffee lounge) in the site office.
The much mentioned sauna in the basement of my office.

Busy Times

Today it snowed. Today is the 3rd of May. One of these things is wrong.

We have had Anne-Marie to stay and have had many adventures with her. Another trip to the archipelago - not so warm and no rowing this time; the Vasa museum which was superb. UK readers, it's like the Mary Rose but much better preserved because the Baltic isn't salty enough for woodworm to survive.
Here is Charlotte and A-M on the boat on the way to Grinda http://twitpic.com/4rc0wt

We have booked our train and hotel for our trip north with my folks in a month's time - very exciting.

Sorry not many pictures.
